As one of only four lawyers in the state of Louisiana to be certified in criminal trial law by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification, he has successfully defended clients in business fraud litigation cases and federal criminal cases. His client base spans from Baton Rouge to the neighboring areas of Denham Springs, Gonzales and Prairieville.
Mr. Holthaus’s acumen as a lawyer has been recognized both in and outside of the courtroom as evidenced by his numerous memberships and leadership roles in professional associations. From 1996 to 1997, he served as president of the Baton Rouge Bar Association. The time as president comes in addition to other positions held with the association dating back to 1987, which include stints as secretary, treasurer and as a member of the board of directors.
Mr. Holthaus has also served as the president of the criminal law section of the Louisiana State Bar Association and has had recurrent posts as a member of this body’s House of Delegates. Today, he remains an active member of the state bar association’s Judicial Liaison Committee.
As a graduate of the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, Mr. Holthaus has not only demonstrated a continuing passion for the practice of law but also a commitment to serve the people of his state.
In 2010, the president of the Louisiana Senate appointed Mr. Holthaus to the Louisiana Public Defender Board, an executive agency composed of distinguished lawyers, academics and religious leaders tasked with improving the services of and commitment to public defense in the state.
